When CNNs Anderson Cooper is presented the Los Angeles Press Clubs Presidents Award for impact on the media, he will be in the legendary Crystal Ballroom at the Millennium Biltmore, where the Oscars were born.

An expected 400 journalists and their invited guests will gather on the evening of June 27th to find out who among them have won in the 52nd Annual Southern California Journalism Awards competition.
More than 500 entries from print, online, broadcasting and college media are now being judged by press clubs around the country

Dave Bryan, a TV reporter for more than 30 years at KTTV and now at CBS2/KCAL9, will receive the Joseph M. Quinn Award for lifetime achievement.
NPRs Anne Garrels is the 2010 recipient of the Daniel Pearl Award for courage and integrity in journalism in recognition of her selflessness in pursuing difficult, often dangerous stories over the years around the world. The award will be presented by Judea Pearl, father of the late Wall Street Journal reporter killed by Pakistani extremists in 2002.
Its a great lineup for a great night in Southern California journalism, says the new Press Club President Will Lewis, a public radio veteran based at KCRW-FM. It proves the point that outstanding journalism continues despite unprecedented difficulties for all news media.
The Club will honor quality reporting in Southern California for 2009. For the first time, it will offer a $1,000 check for Best of Show Journalist of the Year.

According to Wikipedia,The Biltmore is known for once being a home to the Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences was founded at a luncheon banquet in the Crystal Ballroom in May 1927, when guests like Louis B. Mayer met to discuss plans for presenting achievement awards. Legend has it that MGM art director Cederic Gibbons, immediately grabbed a Biltmore napkin and sketched the design for the Oscar.. In 1977 Bob Hope hosted the Academys 50th Anniversary banquet in the same room.
