Mindfulness Meditation for Journalists with Patricia Danaher

Join us at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 24, for a mindfulness meditation workshop hosted by veteran journalist Patricia Danaher! The workshop runs for six weeks and each meeting lasts 90 minutes. This event is free for LA Press Club members.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Journalists are often idealists, with a sense of mission, who want to shine a light in dark places, comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable. We often encounter and report on people when they are not at their best, and there’s a reason why we have sayings like “if it bleeds, it leads.” As well as living in the eternal present with the relentless 24-hour news cycle, social media demands and expectations of satisfying our editors, journalists are often depleted by the stories they are covering in environments that are often very hostile to the press itself. Deadlines, competitive newsrooms, social media and public hostility are not going away, so how can we take good care of ourselves as human beings and remain effective and committed to doing our work?

Mindfulness meditation for journalists, taught by veteran journalist Patricia Danaher, is your secret weapon to reduce stress and anxiety, improve your relationships, balance your emotions and increase your compassion. The tools of mindfulness are ancient, but their practical applications are timeless, teaching you how to live with greater ease in your life and work.

ABOUT YOUR HOST
Patricia Danaher, MA, MBA, is an Irish-born journalist who has been practicing meditation for more than 30 years. She has experienced the rough and tumble of assorted newsrooms and knows well the instability of the freelance life, as the profession of journalism has undergone so much turmoil and uncertainty. As a meditator, Patricia studied Zen in Japan for several years and has practiced many other kinds of meditation in Europe, Latin America and the U.S., including, TM, Vipassana and Insight. She is a certified mindfulness meditation teacher.
