Libor Jany covers the Los Angeles Police Department for the L.A. Times. Before joining The Times in 2022, he covered public safety for the Star Tribune in Minneapolis.
He got his start in the newspaper business at his hometown paper, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, working as a sports agate clerk, the catch-all compiler of high school sports results and box scores from around the Twin Cities. He has worked in newsrooms in Mississippi, northern California, New Jersey and Connecticut.
He graduated with a degree in communications from Mississippi State University, where he was a walk-on football player for two years. Born in the Czech Republic, he lived in Gabon for about six years before settling in Minnesota.
