Catalina Villegas is an award-winning news anchor for Spectrum News 1 SoCal. She anchors the weekend evening newscast, “Your Weekend on Spectrum News1.”
Beyond her leadership at the news desk, Catalina serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Press Club and regularly co-hosts the Southern California Journalism Awards Show. Catalina also actively contributes to nurturing emerging journalism talent as a member of the steering committee for the LAPC’s Foot in the Door Fellowship Program.
Leveraging her expertise to shape the industry’s future, she co-founded Rolli, a newsroom as a service platform empowering journalists with cutting-edge technology to help them more efficiently find experts, stories, and events, while tracking misinformation. She is working in collaboration with the Glen Nelson Center at American Public Media Group and the International Center for Journalists to give this tool to journalists across the country who are on the front lines of a changing media landscape.
Catalina’s career spans local, national, and international markets as a producer, reporter, and anchor for a multitude of stations, including CNN, CBS, NBC, NPR, and Univision. Her career has taken her across the country from California to Washington, D.C., and back.
Catalina is a UC Berkeley graduate who moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from Colombia as an asylum seeker. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Catalina seamlessly transitions between languages, anchoring and reporting with equal fluency in both.
Catalina often represents Spectrum at national and international events including the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ annual conference.
