Alyssah Hall is a multimedia journalist with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Cal State University, Los Angeles. She joined Black Voice News as a UC Berkeley California Local News 2024-2026 Fellow in September of 2024. Born in SoCal and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia, Alyssah experienced what it was like to feel unrepresented and misunderstood in a predominantly white school district. This upbringing inspired her passion for highlighting and uplifting Black folks and other marginalized communities so they could feel seen, celebrated and not othered. Before working with BVN, Alyssah was a reporter for CSULA’s University Times, a freelance writer for the LA Sentinel, freelanced for Afro LA, and worked with NPR’s Next Gen Radio. Alyssah’s reporting focus is solutions journalism, arts and culture, human interest and community-focused stories. She is also passionate about one day being a broadcast journalist on television and radio.
