In the past year, as we all know, the term “fake news” has put the media under scrutiny. Of course, “scrutiny” is what we in the Free Press hold as a fundamental principle in our work.
What we have seen in the past few years highlights just what journalism can achieve: Two women breaking the story of sexual misconduct by one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry has opened the floodgates leading to a changing of Hollywood culture.
That is why our board created the Impact Award, to honor Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey of the New York Times. Such is the power of investigative reporting.
