From Janet Jackson’s breast to Howard Stern’s mouth to 5-second delays, the subject of broadcasting standards has erupted in recent months. Who decides what is obscene? Who is responsible for what comes over the airwaves? The airing of graphic images of attacks on Americans in Iraq has caused much controversy and gives another aspect to this subject.
Amid the controversy, the Los Angeles Press Club will host an evening of discussion on “Censorship in Media”. A panel of experts will debate FCC’s decisions; free speech vs. decency; how far is too far.

WHERE: L.A. Press Club, 6464 Sunset Blvd., 8th floor.
WHEN: April 7th. Cocktail reception at 6:30pm, the program starts 7:30pm.
WHO: Radio and TV journalist Jon Beaupre will moderate the discussion. Panelists (confirmed so far): First Amendment Attorney Stephen F. Rohde; Tim Winter, Executive Director of Parents Television Council; Will Lewis of KCRW.
RSVP: to info@lapressclub.org or call (323)469-8180.
