The Los Angeles Press Club has decided to start a new category to recognize
the work of international journalists
based in Southern California. The new designation reflects the growing
diversity of membership among LAPC members, as well as a recognition of the
special accomplishments of foreign reporters in the Southern California
area.
This is a last-minute addition to the 45th Southern California Journalism
Awards. Because of that, the deadline for these entries will be on Friday,
April 25, 2003. No entries in any other categories will be accepted. Because
this is the first year, the LAPC is recognizing print entries only, but is
looking forward to the inclusion of other media in future contests.
The rules for the entries are: The entrant must be a correspondent based
in Los Angeles for a non-U.S. publication. An English translation of all
entries must be submitted along with an original or copy of the article. All
entries must be about issues, personalities and events in Southern
California.
The awards will be presented at the 45th annual Southern California
Journalism Awards on June 21. They will be judged by a panel of journalists
outside of the Los Angeles area.
The categories must be submitted under the (I) designation. The following
categories are:
I1. Hard news. Single day coverage by one or a group of reporters of
breaking news written on deadline.
I2. News feature. A spin off of topical news, personality profile,
lifestyle coverage and humorous sidelight written by one person or a team.
I3. Entertainment news or feature. Coverage of a show business-related
event, subject or personality, by an individual or a team.
I4. Columnist. A single writer with a point of view on the news, society,
history, literature, culture, humor, lifestyle or other general interest
subjects.
