Covering Disaster – Free Seminar

In an interest of building bridges between Police , Fire and the media, the PPAGLA will be holding a seminar entitled “Covering Disasters” on Saturday, September 24th 2005, from 10:00 am to 3:00pm at the new Glendale Police Department Community Room, at 131 No. Isabel St, Glendale Ca. 91206 – cross st – Broadway in Glendale. The event is co-sponsored by Los Angeles Press Club.

Glendale Police Public Information Officer, Tom Lorenz will have a presentation of the Metrolink disaster from the police prospective. Joining him will be Glendale Fire PIO, Bill Lynch, and Burbank PIO, Rick Madrid, and LA County Fire PIO Mark Savage. We will be also be inviting representatives from the LAPD, Sheriffs Dept. At time of press the US Dept.of Homeland Security Speakers Bureau has shown interest in making a presentation at the event.

If you are a PPAGLA member (electronic or still) who covered the Metrolink train disaster, La Conchita or Bluebird Canyon slides – we are interested in your images for digital projection at our seminar which will be open to students, members of PPAGLA, Los Angeles Press Club and other invited guests. We will hold a panel discussion on media access, police and fire relations and ethical and emotional dilemmas at the scene.
