It’s time to honor an old friend of the Los Angeles Press Club.
Come and join the fun as we roast and toast Bill Boyarsky, the retiring City Editor of the Los Angeles Times, on Wednesday, April 25, 2001.
This mixer is being jointly sponsored by the Los Angeles Press Club and the Society of Professional Journalists, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the upstairs bar of the elegant Cicada Restaurant, 617 S. Olive Street, in downtown Los Angeles.
Boyarsky, known for his wit as well as his skills as a journalist and high professional standards, has been a familiar face in the coverage of Southern California government for two decades. His longtime L.A. Times column, “The Spin,” explored tales of crime, violence, education, politics, official cover ups, the courts and the media.
Boyarsky retired March 20 after 30 years at the Times in order to work on his fifth book. His previous works have included two profiles of former President Ronald Reagan, the acclaimed “Backroom Politics” with wife Nancy Boyarsky, and “Los Angeles: City of Dreams” in 1999.
The Boyarsky tribute promises to be a merry blend of politicos and press. Admission is complimentary for current LAPC and SPJ members and invited guests. Non-members may attend for $10. There will be a cash bar, and Cicada, described by Zagat as “dazzling,” has valet parking.
Space is limited, so RSVP today to Chris@lapressclub.org, or by calling the LAPC offices at (323) 469-8180, or fax (323) 469-8183, and leave a message.
