Slain Russian investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya, whose bravery has inspired journalists around the world, is the sixth recipient of The Los Angeles Press Club’s Daniel Pearl Award.

The posthumous award in her honor will be presented at the Southern California Journalism Awards. It will be accepted by a representative of the Moscow newspaper where she worked at the time of her murder, Novaya Gazeta.

The Pearl Award is named after Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was murdered in 2002 by terrorists in Pakistan. Politkovskaya was chosen in consultation with the Pearl family. “We feel very good about this choice and are pleased that Anna Politkovskaya’s editor will come to Los Angeles in June,” says Ruth Pearl, mother of Daniel Pearl.
