Seven board seats will be open in the upcoming elections, which kickoff on Wednesday, Oct. 6 with the Press Club’s annual membership meeting.

The annual meeting also will include an outlook on the club’s financial status, an update on future events and a rundown of progress on several initiatives related to the club’s nonprofit status.

The event, which will start with cock- tails at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7:30 p.m., will give candidates a chance to outline their plans and proposals for the Press Club in 2005-06. Board candi- dates’ names will then be placed on a secret ballot which will be sent to the entire membership for a vote. Results will be tabulated by the end of November.

Board members whose terms expire this year include Anthea Raymond Beckler, Michael Collins, Karen Ocamb, Jordi Ortega, Ted Johnson, Roy Ulrich and Norma Zager. Some of the seven open seats will not be contested by an incumbent because some incumbents, including Ocamb, are leaving the board.

All members are encouraged to run for one of the seven openings, which are for two-year terms starting in January, 2005. Officers including President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary will be chosen at the January board meeting.

Former Press Club Secretary Chris Woodyard, a writer for USA Today, is serving as election commissioner.

Anyone who has been a member of the Press Club for at least one year is eligible to run for the board. A complete list of eligibility requirements is available on the Press Club website at lapressclub.org.
