From Janet Jackson’s breast to Howard Stern’s mouth to 5-second delays, the subject of broadcasting standards has erupted. Who decides what is obscene? Who is responsible for what comes over the airwaves? The printing of the attacks and assassinations upon Americans in Iraq is causing controversy. What about self-censorship? Are there important topics out there that editors and managers just don’t buy?
The Press Club hosts an evening on “Censorship in Media,” as a panel of experts discusses recent FCC decisions, free speech, what’s tolerable and what’s indecent and how far is too far.
