The 8 Ball Welfare Foundation, an independent non-profit charity associated with the Los Angeles Press Club that helps veteran journalists in need, has launched its annual membership appeal.
Over the past 45 years, modest Aid Grants have helped hundreds over “rough spots when newspersons find themselves suddenly out of work or facing other emergency needs,” says Robert Krauch, who is Chairman of the group founded after the L.A. Daily News folded in 1954. Since then, with numerous media mergers and layoffs, the charity has quietly provided what Rauch calls “a quick fix” to hundreds of journalists with no where else to turn for help.
Along with Krauch, the Foundation directors who are former L.A. Press Club Presidents are Haig Keropian (Vice Chair), Dick Turpin (Secretary), Charles Hillinger (Treasurer), John McSweeney (Chairman Emeritus) and Jay Rodriquez. Also serving as directors are Nona Yates, L.A. Times; Larry McCormick, KTLA; and Pete Noyes, KNBC.
The Foundation is seeking tax deductible annual membership donations of $10 or more. Send contributions or inquiries to: 8 Ball Welfare Foundation, Box 10186, Burbank, CA. 91510.
